Fostering & Rescue Information
Space pending, I occasionally rescue / foster finches, doves, and even a gerbil or hamster here and there. Once the health quarantine period has passed, the birds join the other birds in my aviary room, and are put up for adoption. I'm happy to take care of fostered and rescued animals as long as it takes to find them a new home, even if that new home is my own. :-) (Not to worry. I only accept as many pets as I can comfortably accomodate. Once that limit is reached, no incoming animals are accepted until space opens up again.)
If you have a small bird or small rodent that you'd like to place with me, please feel free to give me a yell. As long as I have the space, and as long as there are no health or behavior issues that could potentially be contagious or harmful to my other pets, I'll be glad to take care of them for you. All fosters and rescues are quarantined for an appropriate amount of time to help prevent the spread of any potential illnesses or parasites.
There is no charge for this service, however, it would be very helpful if you could include whatever food and supplies you have left, along with their cage or habitat and bedding (if applicable). It's not a requirement, but it's nice to be able to keep an animal in a familiar cage with familiar food, and it's easier to find a forever home for a pet if it comes with everything it needs. :-)
Again, I'm currently set up to accept a limited number of finches, doves, gerbils, hamsters, and other small cage-kept pets. Sorry, but I cannot accept larger birds, cats, dogs, fish, ferrets, rabbits, reptiles, etc.
Disclaimer: I am not a licensed rescue. This is just a small private thing I do out of my own home. I've looked into getting a non-profit license, but to be honest, it's more costly than is feasible for the limited number of rescues that I do at this point in time. Perhaps in the future it will be more feasible. In order to prevent any misunderstandings, I'm happy to offer upon request full disclosure of any rehoming fees that are paid. I do not accept monetary donations other than these small rehoming fees (usually $5-$15 per animal), 100% of which goes right back into purchasing food and other supplies necessary for animal care. This isn't a profit-making venture by ANY stretch of the imagination. The only donations, other than small rehoming fees, that I accept are unwanted cages, leftover (but fresh) finch food, unwanted supplies such as seed cups and other cage accessories, and that kind of thing. :-)
